Ibiza eco warriors: saving the planet starts at home. Nativ met inspirational people taking real, positive action right here in Ibiza.
The organic farmer: Marina Morán Jou from Terra Masia
Most people here in Ibiza do not know where their food has actually come from or what harmful elements they are putting into their bodies. It is so wrong that we import produce from the other side of the world when it is all here. And so it is time for everyone to start putting their hands in the soil and grow, just like our grandparents did. Our message at Terra Masia is come back to the countryside, come back to nature.
Why the passion?
I am here because I love being part of something that is changing the island for the better. I feel alive on the farm in the sunshine, hearing the birds, seeing my plants growing. I know I am making a difference.
The pioneer of the green boating movement: Charlie Taverner from La Bella Verde
The waters around our islands are in chaos. In high season there are around 1000 boats sailing around Formentera and Ibiza. That’s around 75,000 litres of fuel being used. Every single day. We are now building our solar panel catamarans and new solar roof boats completely from scratch, even looking into hemp fiber to build our hulls as we continue our role in the change from the gas guzzling, polluting boats to eco-boating across the world.
Why the passion?
When I was a child I wanted to be an underwater photographer which led to me becoming a marine biologist. It’s like going into space down there, a completely different world. I’m a great believer though that Mother Nature is a lot cleverer than we think. However much damage we do wiping out our delicate planet, I truly think it will spring back with a whole range of new species. But she shouldn’t suffer at our expense.
