The ritual of the tea ceremony is art in itself. Influenced by Buddhism, this centuries-old practice offers total immersion in the senses, mind and spirit. In Santa Gertrudis, we can explore it with Sangye Yanling Duan, who opens her home as a tea house: the Ibiza TEA Garden. In her words, it is the “most delicate of acts, a way of appreciating time with serenity and spaciousness. In our Taoist heritage, the TaoTea ceremony is practiced as a calm form of martial art similar to Tai Chi, which cultivates the ability to remain effortless, balanced and mindful, honoring the sacredness of everyday life.”
Since moving to Ibiza in 2020, Sangye – who was born in Mongolia and lived in Switzerland for many years – has been offering a one-hour experience for the island community. While the ritual is always different, it is a silent experience with an important teaching element covering “holistic thinking about human nature”, and “water as the mother of life”.
After the ceremony, “stories about projects and talents that cross-pollinate technology, education and art” are shared. Creative moments from which Ibiza Water Day was born, conceived in response to the water crisis and “designed to involve local protagonists and to share global knowledge and resources through raising awareness of the sacred and precious nature” of this natural resource.
What’s more, Sangye also brings this “healing and transmission” ritual to large leadership and coaching events, and other major international meetings such as the World Economic Forum in Davos and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP).
