“It’s great to share opposing points of view”
How did you meet and what inspires you most about each other?
Selina: We met at an Italian restaurant in the Netherlands, in a city where we were both studying. Jur as a chef and me as a waitress. First we were friends and then we started dating. I was 21 years old and Jur was 23. What inspires us is that we are total opposites, but we share the same values, dreams and vision of our future.
What do you each individually contribute to the relationship and the business?
S: We are both very hardworking, we have a lot of energy and stamina. Jur focuses on the creative process and has an eye for detail. I focus on bringing people together, positive motivation, taking risks and I am also intuitive when it comes to knowing what others need and think. Since we are both different, it’s great to share opposing points of view.
What big challenges have you had to overcome?
S: There are many challenges, but we always find ourselves by taking some time and broadening the focus. Our three children also inspire us to move forward.
Any advice you can give us about work-life balance?
S: It’s difficult, but planning trips is the best. Date nights were no longer useful for us, we were tired in the afternoon and evening, so we switched to early-morning walks or swimming in the sea. Now that the kids are older, we love to travel more, to Los Angeles or Mexico, it’s very good for the soul.
Would you have imagined yourself like this ten years ago?
S: The truth is that we would. We couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else. We learn something every day and truly believe that what we have is unique.
