Stepping into the El Traç Musicaldansa studio in Ibiza is like entering a space bathed in color and peace, where creativity infuses every corner. Drawings that seem to want to come to life hang from the walls, alongside theatre props, brushes, jars holding a thousand chromatic shades, and a small army of easels – all welcoming you to a true artist’s workshop. Half-a-dozen children and teenagers are focused on the canvas in front of them, skillfully sketching animals, their favorite subject. The atmosphere is unmistakably bohemian and inspiring.

Nadia Banegas, the person behind El Traç, has art running through her veins. The daughter of painter Augusto Banegas, she learned to draw and paint from an early age – first inspired by her father, and later guided by another renowned artist, ceramicist and educator, Anneliese Witt.
Her passion for art was always accompanied by a desire to share creativity with future generations. “I always thought, when I finish my Fine Arts degree, I’ll go help Anneliese,” she explains. After completing her studies, she did a stint in Paris at an international theatre workshop – her other great passion – then dedicated herself to teaching art to generations of Ibizan locals. She also leads a musical theatre group that performs regularly in different venues around the island.

In a fast-paced world dominated by screens, this art studio offers children and young people a place to relax, focus and disconnect from technology and begin a journey through a blank canvas. “There’s been a major shift across generations, especially after the pandemic,” says Nadia. “In general, kids are more aware of emotions, both their own and others’. We didn’t even know what emotions were!” On the flip side, she adds, “They struggle to resolve conflicts and deal with frustration.”
New trends have also emerged, like the current enthusiasm for manga that captivates many teens. In response, El Traç has a specialized instructor, Raquel Orellana. The studio offers painting and theatre classes year- round. In summer, they also run camps with a wide range of activities, always associated with either art or performance. Because, beyond having fun, the goal is to spark children’s curiosity so they can discover new worlds – reached by following the path of imagination.
