Nativ Natives

We couldn’t be prouder of our Nativ Natives. They are young and inclusive people who took part in the Young and Proud festival, held last year as part of Ibiza Pride 2024 and organized by the Sant Josep City Council at the Caló de s’Oli auditorium.

Why are inclusion, equality and respect important in your life?

Inclusion is important because it determines whether we live in an equal society, without conflict, where we all accept each other and, above all, live in harmony. While there is still a long way to go before we have an environment of equality as there are still less tolerant people about, I believe that with the upcoming generations, we are on the right path, educating them to contribute to a respectful society and to accept everyone equally.

What does the Pride party mean to you personally?

As far as I’m concerned, Pride Day should exist all over the world, simply because there are people who have had a bad time and who have had to run so that we could walk. That’s why it should always be front and center. A lot of the time, they undermine it by claiming it’s just for people who like to party, and yes, you do have to party because it’s a day for making your demands heard and for celebrating those who are no longer with us, for those who took beatings or who were shot. We are building this up little by little. We are becoming increasingly daring, and ready to go out and be who we are.

What are you proud of today at this festival?

I am proud of two things: first, for the inclusion and diversity it brings, which allows us to have a supportive vision for all minorities, something that I think is really nice. And at the same time, because it’s very important to do things for the people of Ibiza but, above all, because we, as young people, can enjoy ourselves.

Why are you proud to be here today?

Mainly because we can assert our rights and leave behind the fear we have had in the past – fear of going out on the street, or of being beaten up. We are tired of all that. I am proud to be here today because it helps me to assert my rights so that I can have a better future.

Which achievement are you most proud of in your life?

If there’s one achievement I’m proud of, I think it’s being the person I’ve become. There are situations that help you mature and be the person you’ve become. In my case, I have had to overcome certain difficulties that have taught me about life.

OLIVER METZLER
Choreographer

Why is this festival important for young people in Ibiza?

I’m very proud of this festival and of all the young people who have come together through their love of dance to celebrate how proud we are. I’m a choreographer and one of the teachers participating in Young and Proud, and I know that there’s nothing like a good dance class to make you feel comfortable with yourself.
