Summer is synonymous with good weather, warmth, sea breezes, vacations and fun plans. But it also brings with it a problem that affects us all: drought. Satellite images collected by the National Geographic Institute show how water scarcity is increasing in Ibiza in leaps and bounds, showing a huge contrast regarding vegetation greenness due to the lack of rain. To help conserve this vital resource, the work of all the agents involved on the island is essential, including hotels. Palladium Hotel Group was born at the end of the 60’s of the 20th century with the aim of bringing paradise to travelers, working for the community and for sustainability, employing a responsible use of resources, being aware of the impact of its activities, and caring for the environment.

In the words of its CEO, Jesús Sobrino, “We believe that the future involves taking care of the most important hotel of all: our planet, and its guests: the people.”

Managing energy consumption in a hotel is crucial when it comes to minimizing the environmental impact. Throughout its historical journey, the company has promoted various environmental protection measures, with which it has sought to minimize the footprint of its tourist activity. Through its social responsibility project, Palladium Cares, the group continues to reinforce these actions globally and is working to improve several daily lines of action: fewer plastics, the efficient use of energy, the reduction of waste and its correct management, the protection of biodiversity, and, of course, the sustainable use of natural resources such as water.

Palladium Hotel Group is carrying out specific actions such as preventive maintenance of equipment, which anticipates possible leaks and water loss; optimizing systems so they are more efficient; and providing hotel staff with training and awareness on good practices for the efficient use of energy, promoting a culture of sustainability and energy responsibility throughout the organization and with its suppliers.

How can we take care of water individually?

From NATIV and Palladium Hotel Group, we are proposing a series of small actions that will have a very big impact.

1

Check your pipes for leaks

To do so, you need to look at the consumption on your meter, wait two hours without using any water, and then check the reading again. If the meter has changed, that means you have a leak. Fix it ASAP!

2

If you stay at a hotel

Hang the towels up to dry after using them. That way they won’t have to be washed every day.

3

Turn off the faucet

While you wash your hands, brush your teeth, or shave.

4

Showers are better than baths

You will save liters of much-needed water. It’s better to take a dip in the sea.

5

Water the plants in the morning or at night

to avoid the liquid from evaporating in the heat. And it is much better if you use recycled water. Your plants will be happier and so will the planet.
