Meet Seth Schwarz, perhaps the most unique artist in the electronic world. By day, a doctor specializing in radiation oncology, by night a producer DJing to thousands while playing the violin.
“The violin became part of my emotional toolkit to communicate with the world from the age of seven,” admits Seth from his home in Germany. “The inspiration to combine my violin playing with electronic music came later from my desire to push the boundaries of traditional music and explore new possibilities.” Seth began experimenting at small clubs such as Monkey Safari’s Charles Bronson club and underground venues where the reactions were overwhelmingly positive. “People were intrigued by the unexpected combination of violin and electronic music, and it opened up a whole new world of creativity for me as an artist. The reactions from clubbers range from sheer excitement and awe to pure euphoria.”
“MY EARLIEST MEMORY OF MUSIC IS MY MOTHER PLAYING CLASSICAL RECORDS TO ME. SOME OF THEM ENDED UP SCRATCHED, BUT THE BEAUTIFUL MELODIES AND HARMONIES CAPTIVATED ME FROM A YOUNG AGE AND SPARKED MY LIFELONG LOVE AFFAIR WITH ALL KINDS OF MUSIC”.
And whilst Seth also continues to push boundaries with his Skyland music collaboration and new WeR1 music streaming platform, perhaps the most extraordinary aspect of his life is his work as a doctor. “My time in medicine has been incredibly rewarding and humbling,” he says. “Working in radiation oncology has allowed me to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients facing cancer, providing them with hope and healing during challenging times. It’s been a life-changing experience to be able to apply my knowledge and skills to help others in such a meaningful way. The cherry on the cake was playing at the wedding ceremony of one of my brain tumor patients in the clinic, as she was too sick to organize any other celebration. That was special.”
It’s an extraordinary story… one that started with classical music, a genre that has stayed with Seth for life. “Classical music has a timeless and universal quality that speaks to the human experience in profound ways,” he says. “When introduced and appreciated correctly, it has the power to transcend cultural barriers and connect people on a deeper level. By delving into the rich tapestry of classical music, we can gain insights into the complexities of our universe, our planet, and ultimately ourselves, fostering introspection and self-discovery along the way.”
