Volta Windsufing Festival 2026

Ibiza & Formentera Unmissable Rules 2026
Ibiza and Formentera continue to introduce measures aimed at tackling overcrowding and helping ensure the islands remain sustainable. These are the updated regulations you should know about to avoid fines and reduce risks during your stay.
Vehicle restrictions
This summer, Ibiza and Formentera are once again limiting the number of vehicles that can arrive by sea between June and September. During this period, non-resident vehicle owners must obtain authorization before disembarking. Permits for Ibiza can be requested through ibizacircular.es, while access to Formentera is managed via formentera.eco. Failure to comply can result in substantial fines ranging from €1,000 to €10,000.
New rules in Sant Josep
The municipality of Sant Josep is introducing new public conduct regulations that are expected to come into force this summer. Under the new rules, customers who purchase goods from unauthorized street vendors or hire unlicensed services such as massages, tattoos or hair braiding may face fines of between €750 and €3,000. Other measures include higher penalties for public urination and an extension of the ban on alcohol consumption to beaches, parks and natural areas. In both cases, fines range from €750 to €1,500.
A reminder from Sant Antoni
The municipality of Sant Antoni has launched a campaign reminding visitors that its public conduct rules penalize a range of antisocial behaviors. Fines include €1,500 for public drinking parties, €750 for using nitrous oxide, €750 for public urination, €750 for walking shirtless outside designated bathing areas, €500 for purchasing from unauthorized street vendors, €750 for excessive noise or disturbances and €600 for using illegal taxi services.
Motorcycles in Ibiza Town
Ibiza Town has updated its traffic regulations as part of efforts to improve order on its streets. Under the new rules, motorcycles may no longer be parked outside designated and marked spaces, with fines issued for improper parking. The updated ordinance also allows vehicles that have remained parked in the same public location for more than 72 hours to be removed to the municipal impound lot.
Outdoor exercise in Formentera
The Consell de Formentera does not want parks and public squares to become open-air gyms. As a result it has approved the island’s first regulation governing activities such as yoga, Pilates and stretching in public spaces, while expressly prohibiting martial arts. The rules limit organized group activities to a maximum of 12 participants and require prior authorization. Fines range from €100 to €3,000.
Alcohol, rentals and tobacco
The new measures introduced in 2026 build on regulations adopted in previous years, including the Balearic Government’s Responsible Tourism Decree. Since 2024, alcohol sales in stores in Sant Antoni have been prohibited between 9:30pm and 8am. The decree also targets so-called balconing, when tourists jump from balcony to balcony or into swimming pools from great heights, with offenders facing immediate expulsion from their hotel and fines ranging from €6,000 to €30,000.
In recent years, authorities have also increased inspections and penalties targeting illegal vacation rentals in apartments and residential properties, as well as unauthorized transport services commonly known as pirate taxis. For now, sanctions apply only to operators rather than customers. Even so, authorities continue to warn visitors about the risks associated with using these unlicensed services.
Smoke-free beaches, where smoking and discarding cigarette butts on the sand are prohibited, are another example of the sustainability measures introduced in recent years to help protect the natural environment of Ibiza and Formentera. The number of participating beaches continues to grow and they are clearly signposted.
